Nigeria: Humour Merchant Adeboye Goes Home

Lagos — REMAINS of humour merchant and television producer Gbenya Adebayo who died few weeks ago will be committed to mother earth Wednesday, May 14.
Family source said over the week-end that Adebaye who died from kidney -related sickness will be buried in his house which is still under construction at Akute , an Agege surburb.
The burial ceremony according to the source begins today , May 13 with a Christian wake-keeping billed to take place at his residence , Moroundiya close , Akute Ogun State . Lagos Television ground Agidinghi , Ikeja is slated to host the lying -in-state , while the interment at his residence will climax the rites of passage for the ace comedian..
Adebayo whose popular weekly radio program “Gbenga In the House “on Eko FM , Lagos endeared him to the hearts of his fans , died after suffering from kidney -related ailment . He hailed from Ode Omu and Gbongan in Osun State . The humor merchant who attended the Apostlic primary school Odo- Okun and Modakeke Oranmiyan grammar school , Ile- Ife in 1978 rose to fame in the late 80s, through his popular Funwotan program on Lagos State Broadcasting corporation . The humor merchant until his death was a remarkable figure in the arts industry . His contributions to the arts especially in the entertainment industry remains immeasurable . He produced and anchored variety of programs in some television stations in Lagos , Ogun , Oyo and also Osuin State . The popularity of those programs notwithstanding Adeboye’s predominant use of Yoruba language in most of his programs made him to stand out among his contemporaries as a multi- talented artist .Apart from his jokes and lyrics that have been recorded in many popular audio, video and compact discs , Adeboye’s legacies include his hit album which he released upon returning from Europe and America 1998 “Gbenga Adebeyo in America “and such other albnms as London Yabis , Exposure , Aye toto , supremacy , oro sunuku and Ijinle ore lati ore ite mimo. He is a stanch member of the Association of Nigerian theater arts practitioners.
